The first three minutes of that clip were painful, "awful" doesn't quite do it justice ... but then something truly sublime happened and music at long last put in an appearance.  I have long held the theory that every now and then we should listen to some real dross as it will make us appreciate the good stuff all the more and that performance seems to prove the point.   :)

Of course The Temptations did do an entire LP of MOR Standards with their "In A Mellow Mood", though it did also include a strangely jazzed-up version of "I'm Ready For Love" ....

I have 'In A Mellow Mood' but only because it was a 2fer attached to 'Wish It Would Rain'. As for their version of 'I'm Ready For Love' Martha would turn in her grave but thankfully she's still on this side of life.

Well guys, since we brought up the Temptation's Mellow Mood. I will say that it was beautifully produced as far as orchestration go' s. The Temptations displayed a surprising amount of magic to these standards, especially Paul and David. To me David and and the Temptations cover of What now my love was outstanding. It recieved a lot of air play on R& B stations and everybody went crazy over it. Loved it.
I really want to know who' s idea it was to include I' m ready for love on here? It certainly didn't put me in a Mellow mood. It was a good LP but not even compatible to The 4 Tops Hello Broadway LP that still has yet to debut on CD.
I have  sampled the digital release of the tops Broadway LP. I was pleasantly surprised to find the complete original track of Make someone happy In tack. There was an extra spoken word verse by Levi inclued there.
I didn't know about this till now. As the song fades Levi comments" the world can be so cold". It was edited out of the original release. I suppose Motown didn't want any type of political messages included on the their songs. After all Berry wanted to appeal to the main stream cross over market.

Hi All, I have In A Mellow Mood but only to complete my Temptations collection. However back in the late 80's I saw the Temptations live the then line up consisted of Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Dennis Edwards, Richard Street and Ron Tyson. Melvin sang Ol Man Rive and having heard it live was something very special, it felt like whole place vibrated with that fantastic bass voice Melvin had.
