Natural Wonder

I'm not a fan of live albums, but Stevie is the exception to the rule. Anyway I was listening to this live album the other day and dreaming of all the Stevie concerts I've been to. Then it struck me that 3 of the tracks have never been released on a studio album Dancing to the Rhythm, Stevie Ray Blues and MS & Mr Little One. I wonder how many other songs he's sang at concerts that have never got to CD.

Thanks Paul, all good tracks which I had not heard before. 'Dancing to the Rhythm' if recorded in truncated form would have made a good single.

I thought that to. That was the main reason I bought the album as I'd never heard those tracks before. :)

I wonder how many more Motown artists have released original live tracks with no corresponding studio version?

I like the ballad most. I suppose we should appreciate that it's probably best that Stevie didn't release studio versions, as he would have used the ghastly mechanical drum machine prevalent on his most recent albums.

I wonder if these songs have been covered by others.

I understand he often inserted unrecorded songs into his concerts.

I had this cd years ago.  It is one of the best live lps ever recorded. It feels more like a studio lp. The sound quality was stellar to say the least. He introduced alot of new songs during numorous concerts over the years that never appeared on studio lps. I wonder if there also might be alt studio versions of them? He also performed live versions of his hits that were arranged differently than the studio version. I recall him being a guest on a tv show back in the 80s. He performed you are the sunshine of my life life. This was not particularly one of my favorites by him, but on this show he added a very lovely ballad intro to Sunshine of my life called everybody needs it, everybody wants it. Then it segway's into Sunshine of my life. Id love to have this recording in my collection. If I could just remember what show that was that he performed it on.

Hi Mike, It was recorded at a performance in Osaka Japan. I often play this in the car then it gets me wishing I could see Stevie live again. Last time I saw Stevie was at the O2, really disappointed being stuck at the very back in the Gods and having to watch the screens most of the time. However the atmosphere was great.

[Thanks Eric , I'll have to check that out. I didn't get around to purchasing any of the Motown in Japan concerts cd back in the day. I think they were released on  vynl and cd versions.
