Love Where Are You Hiding

'Love Where Are You Hiding' was vaulted for almost 40 years! It's one of Martha's strongest performances and I think that it would have made a great single. Thoughts? BTW the Elgins recorded it first but their version was also vaulted for 40 years!

I do like this song. Weatherspoon and Dean with their various 3rd and 4th partners could write some good, complex songs. The stereo mix by the Elgins pops a bit more than Martha's mono mix, so that's one "plus" for the Elgins over Martha.

All that said, I don't really hear this as a hit single. It definitely shouldn't have been vaulted for as long as it was and absolutely could've fit quite nicely on the "Ridin' High" album. (Some folks don't like the covers Martha sings on RH, but... they don't bother me--cause she sings them well!) One of these days, I should go through Martha's 1967-68 material and see if I would re-program "Ridin' High."

One Martha song from this era that I think has a hook and could've been single-worthy is... "I've Got To See You." Granted, it wasn't finished until the end of 1968, so it could've been released then and included on "Sugar 'N Spice," but... woulda-coulda-shoulda.

Oh no I love Riding High just as it is - its one of those LP's that I dont like to listen to too often for fear of over familiarisation, every few months I take it out and play it 'as new' to touch this would be a dissaster - add to it maybe but don't take away the music.
