John, If we're talking about Motown songs in general that would be impossible for me , their are just too many. Since you Listed this track from The Isley's Soul on the Rocks, I think I'll chose one from that stellar set. Got to have you back just blew me away with it's High-energy. No pun on the group by that name.

Their are so many to choose from. However my fav Isley Brothers today is Behind The Painted Smile love the drums at the end.
Has anyone else ever covered that song? Not that anyone could do it like the Isley Brothers.

Seems that Stock, Aitkin & Waterman had a stab at "Behind A Painted Smile" ...

45Cat also lists a 1980 version by a group called U.S. of A. but I can't find it on YT ....

One of my very favourite Isley tracks. A solid HDH song which puts me in mind of “I’m In A Different World” and “Forever Came Today” Not the melody but the production which strikes me as dense and a little laboured on all three songs. That said these are some of fave Motown songs.

I will have to remind myself what Chuck Jackson’s version is like.

Brian, you are right! There is a 'Different World'/'Forever Came Today' vibe. Even though the Isley's version is the cover I prefer it to Chucks as good as it is.
