General Discussion, Questions, News etc. / Re: Snakepit's New Radio Show
« on: January 17, 2023, 05:08:18 am »
Snakepit congrats to getting a new radio show (sorry to say I've not listened to yet) and congrats for getting your own sub-genre on the forum. I've never come across the term Ilford Grooves so I'm as bemused as our friends over in Japan.  :)

Happy New Year to all.
I'm enjoying reading your post Snakepit and Roger. I've heard of this David Godin mentioned a few times, but never knew he lived in my neck of the woods so it's now making even more interesting reading your posts.

Stevie Wonder / Re: That Girl

So not many of you are keen on Stevie's later stuff, Oh well I won't try and influence you.  :)
I personally like all Stevie's late albums. From The In Square Circle my favourite track was Part Time Lover

Hi Humboldt, Another great find never heard this track until now. Stevie has so much material that's not on vinyl/CD.

Thanks for posting Humboldt. Agree with Mike about it it being like Shout. I've always liked Richards voice and Bring Back The Love and Heavenly have to be his best vocals.
For a Temptations fan I don't know why did Richard did not join The Temptations from the outset is somebody able to answer?

Temptations / Re: temptations MOR. or what?
« on: November 15, 2022, 06:22:30 am »
Hi All, I have In A Mellow Mood but only to complete my Temptations collection. However back in the late 80's I saw the Temptations live the then line up consisted of Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Dennis Edwards, Richard Street and Ron Tyson. Melvin sang Ol Man Rive and having heard it live was something very special, it felt like whole place vibrated with that fantastic bass voice Melvin had.

Temptations / Re: The Temptations & Four Top at the O2

Hi Mike, thank you for your comments and you are right I'm not a fan of Motown covering MOR. However I saw Gladys Knight at the RAH a few years back and she did a great version of I Did It My Way, it was in my opinion her best performance of that track and better than a CD track I have of her singing it.

Chris Clark / Re: CC - What went wrong?
« on: October 26, 2022, 06:33:42 am »
Hi Humboldt, Thanks for posting those clips. I liked Chris's first album. Playing her anthology she had so much better material than what was on her 2nd album You would have thought Berry would have thought Berry would have intervened and found better stuff. Maybe she was just a distraction for Berry and he was not bothered too much about her track output. However Head To Toe is my favourite much better than the Miracles earlier effort and to me should have been a hit.

Thanks for posting Humboldt, love that track. I love all the stuff by Stevie and of course The Temptations. Have you or anyone else had the good fortune to see Stevie live?

Apologies written in haste. Meant to say never seen 1990 album on CD since.  It has one of my favourite tracks of all time  'Heavenly ', Richard Street was on fine from for that track.
