It is hard to believe that it has been 40 years and this is returning to the movie houses.  If you haven't seen it, it is well worth your time and effort.

Temptations / Return to Motown Junkies with this Fading Away review
« on: October 03, 2025, 08:42:54 am »

At long last the Motown Junkies has returned to the scene.  Thank goodness for that.  Let's hope it keeps going and going and going.

Enjoy this.

FYI --- I am not on facebook, however, I was able to play and listen to it.  Great production.  Recognized numerous celebrities there.

Thanks for posting.

I just wanted to give my two cents for what it is worth.

First and foremost, I was totally unaware of the upcoming auction.  It seems as though it was only learned in the USA the very last day and there was not a lot of time to allow people to bid on the items.

I must admit that the format and the presentation in my opinion was exceptional; but it seemed to me that it was over before it began.  It should have been announced a week ahead of time and gave interested buyers time to bid and rebid if their bid was not what was anticipated.  I had no complaints about the way it was presented but there was an awful lot to consider obtaining.

Just think what would have happened had Adam White in his West Grand Blog announced mid-week that the sale was going to be happening.  Then allow an extra week for people to bid and rebid if necessary.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I just discovered something new.  I saw where Rode by the Place (where we used to stay) Motown 1420 sung by David Ruffin the writers credits were shown as M. Johnson.  I was unaware that any songs Marv wrote were released by David Ruffin.  As you know Marv died 5/16/1993.  The Motown 1420 single was released on 1998-01-01.

Who knows there might be additional songs written by Marv that were performed by other artists long after his passing.  His legacy surely continues on.

Does anyone know of any others?

I just determined by an internet search that Marv's performance of You Got What It Takes was performed on American Bandstand on October 26, 1959.

Another good piece of information I just learned was the up until 1961, Marv was the only Motown-related artists who had recorded a Top 10 hit single, You Got What It Takes on 8/19/1959.

There is an excellent Hall of Fame induction article in the Michigan rock and roll legends collection.

It is worth you while to read this in its entirety.  I did not realize it was available in this format.

That was a nice recap of Marv's legacy.  Thank you for finding this and posting it.

I have one question.  The first link commented that he made an appearance on American Bandstand.  Maybe I knew and forget, but I do not recall ever seeing him perform on American Bandstand.  It would be interesting to see his performance there if anyone can locate it.

I had the opportunity to travel to Detroit and I actually attended Marv's funeral.  It was a sad event.  Mrs. Edwards of the Motown Museum stood at the podium and praised Marv for all he did for Motown.  I will never forget it.  There were people from all over the country came to Detroit to attend the funeral.  I have a VCR video tape that was sent to me by a couple from Florida showing segments of the funeral.

It was sad that he was not invited to attend the 25th Anniversary show on Motown 25.

Books/Films/Plays / Re: UK Publications

Thank you for your response.  I do get Sharon's Motown Spotlight but I have to be careful that I don't miss it.  It always comes inside of another email which is full of other information and I have to be extra careful so I don't miss it.  It doesn't come out like the West Grand Blog every week.   It is a highly appreciated spotlight and I really get a lot out of it.

I was curious if there are any other publications that I might be unaware of.  In the past we had the Chatbusters and then the Motown International Collectors Club publications which evolved into Yesterday, Today, Forever.  These were not free, but they were reasonably priced and easy to read.  Another excellent publication that I miss is Chatbusters.  Unfortunately, I was only ever able here in the USA to obtain Issue 9, September 2001.  I do have every MICC publication as well as every YTF publication in my collection.

I am not opposed to paying for these in print vs. on the computer.  Guess I am old fashioned but I find these easier to manipulate and find information that I might want to refesh my memory on.

Does anyone know of "other" good publications that I am unaware of?

Books/Films/Plays / UK Publications

Today I got a weekly email from Soul Source and in it was mention of a publication called SOUL UP NORTH.  They are offering Issue #123 from spring 2025 for L4.00.

I analyzed what the contents of the publication was but I saw NO MENTION of anything Motown or Motown related.  This is the first I ever heard of this publication.  Are any members familiar with it?  Have they ever done any articles on Motown in the first supposed 122 issues?

Which brings me to the next question.  Are there CURRENTLY any publications in the UK about Motown other than the excellent West Grand Blog by Adam White?

Just wondering.  Thanks.

This was a good find.  I learned a lot about Debbie Dean aka Reba Jeanette Smith from watching this video.  I was unaware she was a part of the Corporation at Motown as well as her other recordings on the APT label.  I was kinda gloomy at the end of the video where they took you to the grave where she is buried.  Otherwise, it was very informative.  She went a long way from Kentucky to Michigan.  Her Motown 1025 single release was honored with a picture sleeve which I have.

Marvelettes / Re: Ann Bogan

I was looking through some of my early 1960's 45s and discovered something about Ann Bogan that I was unaware of.  She gets a lot of credit for filling in on the Marvelettes but I did not realize that she was the lead singer of the Tri-Phi group The Challengers III.  On their first release Honey, Honey, Honey, Tri Phi 1012 the actual record gives no indication that she was the lead singer, but on Tri Phi 1020 the label clearly indicates Challengers III featuring Ann Bogan.  I noted earlier on this thread that she had sang with the Andantes before going with the Marvelettes.

It would surely be interesting to know the full career she had with Tri Phi, Harvey, Motown, and Tamla.  I guess we know less about her than we know about her.  Sad.

I am in dire need of Issue #2 and Issue #9 --- I have all the other issues.

If anyone knows any source for either of these, I would be very grateful to be informed about it.

Thank you.

I was looking at a YouTube video yesterday on Kim Weston and the article showed a page from B&S Magazine 489 entitled "There's Still A Lot Of Unreleased Stuff I Did With Marvin Gaye by Kim Weston.

Does anyone have this issue who could scan the article into MT for the benefit of ME and OTHERS.

It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for helping out.
