I've loved Earl Van Dyke's instrumental version of "I Can't Help Myself" ever since I first heard it (which must have been in 1972 when it received a belated UK single release) ...
Here is the tune in question as originally released as a 45 in 1965 ...
However today I heard the version of the tune that appeared on the 1972 UK LP "Motown Memories (16 Non-Stop Tamla Hits)" after one of our MT members posted it "elsewhere" ... and it's a very different take ...
Here is this alternative version, which starts 18 minutes into The YT video ...
There is no mention of this on DFTMC ...

Presumably this "alternative" version appeared on the Stereo version of Earl Van Dyke's "That Motown Sound" LP but there is no mention of the LP on DFTMC either!! Interestingly the "That Motown Sound" LP was first released in May 1965 whereas DFTMC has the single version of "I Can't Help Myself" not being completed until three months later.
