Thanks, Snake. The Shirelles are arguably the best girl group in the world - mybe not the most successful chart-wise but they released consistently high quality stuff.

Another instantly recognisable group is The Chiffons.

My memory must be faulty because I thought this stomping track had been a UK chart hit but it is absent from my old copy of British Hit Singles & Albums.

'Stop, Look & Listen' is my fav Chiffons single and was their second last hit in the US #85. Their final hit was 'Sweet Talkin' Guy' US #10 in '66. Only made UK #31 but of course reached #4 when it was re-issued in '72.

You guys are bringing back some great girl group memories. Of all the ones mentioned so far, I love Last Minute Miracle and Stop Look and Listen. To add a few more to the mix, how about the Dixie Cups' You Should Have Seen the Way He Looked at Me, the Shangri-las" Right Now and Not Later, and the Ronettes' You Came You Saw You Conquered.

All these songs have something in common.........their groups had major chart hits but these songs we are mentioning were either much lesser hits or no hits at all. So just like with our Motown ladies, you just never know what is going to take off and zoom to the top of the charts and what equal or better song will just not cut it for whatever reason.

This time the Toys, a song I had long forgotten about. Apart from 'A Lover's Concerto' and 'Attack!' they had very little success.

It sounded like Billy Stewart was about to launch into "Summertime" at the end of that video John!! :)

My favourite Toys tune would have to be "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby", a song which was also recorded by ? & The Mysterions of "96 Tears" fame … :)

Baby Toys and Happy Birthday Broken Heart was a great A and B side.
