Shangri-Las - Right Now And Not Later

Shangri-Las - 'Right Now And Not Later' always sounded like a Motown record and I classed it as Northern Soul. I'm probably wrong as I still don't know what makes some songs NS and others not?

Always thought this was the 'Las best track and yes I have read the Motown comparison comments. Not sure I see that aspect of it, but definitely a cool song.

The only Northern Soul connection I ever knew of was that it was written and produced in part by former Motowner Robert Bateman--along with Drake Hollon and Robert Moseley. I'd say it has a bit of "Detroit Sound," but it's not a Motown knock-off.

But if someone wanted to find a Motown connection besides Bob Bateman, he and Drake Hollon also worked (as producer/songwriter and songwriter, respectively) with former Supreme Florence Ballard on her solo career recordings at ABC Records.  ;D
