Motown Treasures

Well, somebody had to look at it ....

Actually I found it to be an interesting and varied list ... not much Motown as Motown had virtually ceased to be a "new release label" by the 1990s  (only four entries released by the label plus another four with a Motown connection) still a lot of Heavy-Metal but there was more Country and Country/Rock than in the previous decades lists plus '90s genres such as Grunge, Brit-Pop, Euro-Dance, '90s R&B and Hip-Hop.

For those wondering what the difference between Country/Rock and Pop/Rock might be it's quite simple really .... if the lead singer is wearing a cowboy hat it's "Country/Rock", if not it ain't!! 

And for those wondering who is winning the great Brit-Pop battle between Blur and Oasis in 2026 it's a hands-down victory for Oasis, the only Blur song I noticed was that "Woo Hoo" thing whereas Oasis had about half a dozen entries and some were very near the top of the list.

And in case you're wondering what has topped the list it is a song called "Iris" by an American group called Goo Goo Dolls with a mind boggling 3.2 Billion streams ... never heard of it? neither had I, though it seems it was a #26 UK hit and got to #1 in The USA, Australia and Canada in 1999 and has subsequently spent a total of 214 weeks in the UK charts.
