Concept Nine with Gladys Horton
« on: August 15, 2020, 07:00:28 pm »
Gladys Horton is on lead! Something I learned from the interview with her son. Written by G. Steven Thornton who Vaughan thought was his father but isn't!

Doesn't sound like Gladys to me but then my ears are not my best organs. If that is her - and they are nice songs - could they have sped things up a tad?

I agree Eric that it does not sound like Gladys but it is her. I prefer 'When' but both are OK. It seems that's all there is!

I've got "When" on a Cdr from an old tape ( Northern/60s stuff) from way back....so somebody rated it to put on a swap tape.

45Cat have another Concept Nine track called "Face Lift", though I can't find it on YouTube …

Strange that there's no mention of it of it on Discogs! It's even on a different label with both sides having a different catalogue number!

Amazing that as soon as I heard it, I thought it was Gladys. It sounds like the Gladys heard on the unreleased "Learning To Forget You" and a bit like "I Need Someone". The song is cut in a higher key than I'm used to hearing Gladys sing and maybe that is why she sounds so un-Gladys like to some ears. (and wouldn't it be typical of my life if someone came out right now with proof this ISN'T Gladys!!!)

Hunter, if you listen to the interview with Gladys's son Vaughan Thornton you will hear him talking about his mum and Concept Nine.
