So back to the UK series of Big Hits are you sure TML 11050 was available in Stereo here in the UK ? I had always believed TML (S) 11074 Volume 6 was the first in the series to be released here in the UK in glorious stereo.

What leads me to believe that's right is that several of the tracks on volume 6 were actually (according to paperwork) re-mixed just for this project
Its So Hard Being A Loser
I can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You
Night Fo' Last
Since I Lost You Girl
I Got A Feeling
It's Been A Long Long Long Time
I'll Say Forever My Love
My Baby Must Be A Magician

Up to the date of release of Volume 6 none of these tracks had been issued in Stereo as far as I can see and paperwork shows them all on one master tape mixed at just before the release date of this compilation.

And as far as I can see (I could easily be wrong) Rita Wright's track appears to have only been released in Mono apart from this compilation.

Maybe I'm wrong about Volume 5 if it's available in stereo please post a photo I'd love to be proved wrong.

Actually Paul, I've not been able to find any photographic evidence for the existence of a stereo version of TML 11050 either … I was going off the discography in "Motown - The History" by Sharon Davis, which lists it as a "routine" release of the period (i.e. one available in Stereo and Mono) rather than one in Mono only.

Of course it could be an error in the discography (the book famously lists a mythical US single release of "I Hear A Symphony" by The Isley Brothers) or it could be that some copies were actually printed.  I'm attaching a photo of the relevant page in the book as evidence.

I've just finished putting this Vol 6 onto CD and for my Ipod it's an amazing lineup of tracks many at that time really hard to find and every one was a winner - cant wait to listen to it even more now I have the stereo on a friendly format

The Heat Wave book has  Volume 5 as a mono-only release, TML 11050. Volumes 6, 7 and 8 are the only ones also released in stereo. I tend to believe 99% of what's in that book.

It looks like the Motown Memories series had two mono only volumes before a third stereo only release in 1970.

In terms of the UK 16 Big Hits series, the only volume that hasn't been available on either CD or cassette as far as I know is Volume 2 i.e. "Hitsville USA" TML11019.  The tracks for Volume 1 and 3 are on the Tamla Party double play cassette, Volume 4 and 5 are available on the USA CDs although transposed and Volumes 6, 7 and 8 were issued as individual cassettes.

As we know, the USA series are all on CD except for Volume 11.

Forgot to mention that the USA series of 16 Big Hits Volumes 1 to 4 (as far as Mary Wells & Marvin Gaye "Once Upon A Time") was re-created in MONO on the 5 CD series of Motown Classic Hits in 1994-1995. The tracks were in exactly the right sequence but overlapped CDs as each contained only 12 tracks.  You can see these here:
