The 2026 Detroit Trinity International Film Festival is marking 20 years of highlighting the work of independent filmmakers.
It also is celebrating a first. The festival, which kicks off Thursday, July 16 and wraps up Sunday, July 19, is teaming for the first time with the Detroit Historical Museum. The museum's Louise C. Booth Auditorium will be the site of screenings for this year's lineup of 38 movies from seven countries. Thursday’s opening screening at 4 p.m., which is free, will feature three short films on musical themes, one which is:
● "Kim Weston: Buried in Motown,” about the early Motown star known for “It Takes Two,” her classic duet with Marvin Gaye. It’s described in the online festival guide as a documentary “that restores the story of a Motown voice too often remembered in fragments and silence. “
