The current trouble with the term Northern Soul is how it is used and how it can lead former stars into thinking they are 'King' of Northern Soul or 'Queen' of Northern Soul. I've tried to explain the situation to the few singers who I've been lucky enough to meet or speak to that having a Northern Soul favourite record in your repetoire does not make you a darling of the Northern Soul scene - its simply means one of your records is a Northenr favourite and they could care less about the rest of your songs.
It is very hard for them to take in, that if they do a show at the ****** Regent in the south of England that the audience wont always be chock full of northern soulies and that they should concentrate their act on their
**** fans and not worry about uspetting the 'zillions' of northeners (that they believe inhabit the UK) by what they sing.
It just seems that when they do specific Northern shows they get the mistaken idea that every soul or Motown fan is a Northern Soul fan and obvs it's not the case.
