"I've Passed This Way Before"

Here's Jimmy singing "I've Passed This Way Before" on a German TV show called "Beat Club" back in '69.

The song was a sizable US hit in '67 (#17 on Billboard and Cash Box's "Pop" charts, #10 BB R&B and #29 UK) and then had a second chart run in The UK in '69 when a reissue with the spoken intro edited-out reached #33.  Presumably this "Beat Club" performance was to tie in with the 1969 German issue of the song, fortunately the clip includes the spoken intro!!

Always loved this song by Jimmy. An aside story. Back in the day I somehow managed to persuade my little brother to buy the single even though he was not really that fond of it I wonder if he remembers!

DDinVirginia ... The teen audiences on those '60s & '70s German TV shows tended to be like that, I think they thought it "cool" to be "cold".

Well I've learned something today and I can honestly say I've never ever heard the version without the spoken intro before. In fact I've spent all day researching the DM's for this track and I can state that no version of this without the spoken intro exists in the Motown vaults. And so I can only assume that the UK for some bizzare reason had the track edited here in the UK for release and foolishly deleted what is one of the labels best spoken scene setters for the UK 45.
