Isley Brothers UK Visit 2020
« on: November 27, 2019, 04:56:47 am »
Jazz FM announced yesterday that they had signed up The Isley Brothers as one of the headline acts for their 2020 "Love Supreme" Jazz Festival, to be held over the weekend of 3rd-5th July 2020 at Glynde in Sussex.

This year the station had Gladys Knight as one of their "Love Supreme" headline acts and Miss Knight took the opportunity to appear at a number of other venues during her visit to The UK so possibly The Isley Brothers will do the same.

Not much detail so far, but I have found this article at LondonJazzNews.com

Thanks Roger. Who is in the Isley Brothers these days?

Looks like it is essentially Ronald and Ernie nowadays …

Their website lists a few UK Dates this coming summer …

Jun 24th - Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
Jun 26th - Leeds First Direct Arena
Jun 29th - Bournemouth International Centre
Jul 1st - London Eventim Apollo (think that means "Hammersmith Apollo")
Jul 2nd - Nottingham Theatre Royal
Jul 3rd - Manchester Apollo

No mention of "Love Supreme" in there so far.  Looks like tickets for the UK gigs go on sale tomorrow!!

Our friend Grapevine attended an Isley Brothers concert some years back. For that UK performance, the guys sang some of their Motown songs - as they were so popular here in the UK.

Ron Isley is a fantastic singer, probably the best male vocalist Motown had in the Sixties. I wonder if he still has that magic voice.

Thanks Roger & Eric. Glad that they sung their Motown hits as those are the only ones I'm really interested in.

Is anyone attending one of the Isley Brothers concerts?

I'd love to hear a review.

Also, if programmes are on sale, I'd like to purchase one.

I saw posters for their concert in Glasgow yesterday. It listed all their Motown hits which was good to see.

Presumably, Covid-19 has put paid to any UK appearance by the Isley Brothers this year.

Back in the Sixties, they toured the UK (and probably some of Europe) and appeared at a small night-club run by the brother of a workmate of mine. I pushed the workmate for stories about the club and the artists who performed there. When I asked who had been the best artist, he replied that, without a shadow of a doubt, it was the Isley Brothers.

I wish I had seen them.

Yes SWI …

The Jazz-FM event was due to be next weekend and they announced it was cancelled about two months back.

The good news is that they have announced that The Isleys are booked in for next year's event.
