Brenda Holloway / Re: A Favour For A Girl(With A Lovesick Heart)
« on: April 22, 2025, 05:50:05 am »
following on from my earlier post, I wonder if you can help me a little further, Dan (or anyone else) with the early Brenda timeline.

I'm assuming she was signed to motown sometime in the Fall of 1963. Is it then right to assume that the first two tracks she recorded for motown were 'each little teardrop' and 'deep freeze', which both appeared on the digital 'unreleased 1963' collection? But can someone shed any more light on when these two were recorded, as DFTMC gives the date for ELT as "by 14th Feb 1964" (even though it gives a Jobete publishing date of 29th Nov 1963), and DF as "by 17th Feb 1964" - if this is the case, why were they included in the 1963 unreleased collection?

Any ideas/firmer dates, anyone?

I'd be intrigued to know when this was recorded - DFTMC just has 1964 for the date, whilst TCMS states that is was recorded "on her first visit to Hitsville". I'm guessing this must have been quite early on in 1964, presumably soon after she was signed to Motown (Nov or Dec 1963?) - does anyone have more info on this?

yes, sorry - I meant 'first hits' - it seems it was issued both in vinyl & CD format. And thanks for linking to the label scan - assuming the CD and vinyl used the same tracks, that seems to blow my last hope of finding a digital mono mix.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi
Thanks for your responses - i'm looking for a digital copy rather than a vinyl lift. I've found something which may be promising - there is a 1989 German/European CD of Stevie's called 'Early Hits' - Discogs lists the track running times (without saying if the cd is mono or stereo), and 'be cool' is listed as running as 2.51 (the longer mono running time - the stereo mix only runs to about 2.42). Anyone out there have a copy of this cd who could confirm if the mix is mono or stereo?

Hi everyone - just joined today, as I have a question I hope someone will be able to answer:-

Has the mono mix of 'be cool, be calm (and keep yourself together)' ever been issued on cd or mp3?
cheers.
