One of the teams working with pop stars of the Sixties in the Bob Crewe & Bob Gaudio cmbo - most famous for the best Four Seasons and Frankie Valli recordings.

One of the girls they worked with was Tracey Dey, who was also one of the Rag Dolls. Tracey had three American chart hits between 1963 and 1964. This one was not a hit but it is a favourite of mine:-

I always wondered if the Rag Dolls' DUSTY was a tribute to our own Ms Springfield:-



The Rag Dolls had two excellent US chart hits back in 1964/5 and DUSTY was the biggest hit, reaching number 55. Tracey does sound a little like a female Frankie Valli, towards the fade.

There was a rumour that (the secretly gay) Bob Crewe met Dusty in New York in the early Sixties and that the pair of them had a great time together. DUSTY was supposedly a gay tribute to her.

Not sure I believe that but some of these rumours hang around for decades!
