Carla Thomas new SoulMusic Records box set

It was with absolute glee that I welcomed the new SoulMusic Records box set of Atlantic Sta material - ALL her output in one box - I love this kind of set. BUT I'm a bit miffed that I think the compiler has put it together in session order - so although you (obviously) get her whole LP's some are not in the original running order and some LP's have tracks split over different discs. I don't think I've come across this way of doing things before. Am I alone in finding it annoying? When I play an LP I know what's coming next and now I don't. I'm about to reburn in the right order...

No Paul.
I have 2 boxed sets of ALL Nat King Cole recordings for Capitol, dating from 1955.( Bear from Germany),.
The recordings are programmed in session date order, so if, for example NKC recorded songs on LA...and then toured to New York for example, the style of material might change.
Therefore on these box sets you might get a CD with Big Band swingers , then Christmas/ Spanish/ Italian....or piano only...mixed together.
Most annoying.
For the Nerd it might be ideal....every track in session order..but off putting.

Sometimes it might just be 3 or tracks merged inbetween but it does annoy me.

Love Carla but I have all that I want. I too hate it when the original album running order is messed with!

A compiler can ask the record company to supply and list all releases in session order - it's an easier task to the split over a finite number of cd'S rather than taking and LP and fitting bonus tracks around it. I just cannot see the benefits of having it in session order myself. I wonder if there are others in this series compiled the same way?

I can undestand it for die hard serious collectors, but I would think the majority of potential customers are not THAT serious to want exact session order.

Years ago I bought a cheap Supremes collection. All the tracks were in random order. To play it I had to put them in release date order! OCD perhaps?

I prefer comps to be in date order ( or single release date) but for session dates that are not consistent, I am not keen.
A comp on DRATS in, say 65/66 session order, could have Detroit, LA, Novelty, all mixed up...no thanks

I am probably in the minority here but I do not mind a compilation CD having songs in random order. For example, I have numerous "best of" collections by Dionne Warwick and Phyllis Hyman, oh and the Supremes of course since we are supposed to be talking Motown. So when I pop one of those in the CD player, it is actually kind of fun to have no idea what song might come up next.

When I found out that my new CD player had a "random" function back in the early '90s it made it a whole lot more enjoyable for me to listen to most of my CDs as it meant that I never knew what I was about to hear next.  With those Motown Chartbuster LPs that I used to play incessantly in the early '70s it got to the stage that if I ever heard some of the tracks on them on the radio or in some seedy dive I'd be half expecting the following "Chartbuster" track to come on next!! :)

Doesn't work with "concept" LPs of course.

Random is a good function...I use it a lot  on CDs if available.
Of course, if the CD contains  Spanish, Chiristmas and novelty amongst the 'regular' style of recordings the same problem exists.
But for most CDs random works for me
