Earlier this morning I headed out to get a few provisions from my local German-owned Discount Supermarket.
As I was agonising over whether I was able to afford what was on offer I noticed that in the background I could hear Bettye LaVette singing "Let Me Down Easy"!!
It turns out it was actually a song that sampled Ms LaVette's classic but it did make me try to track down who it might be by and, in the course of my investigations, I found that on YT there is a video of her singing the song "live" on Shindig in 1965.
Here is the 1965 "Shindig" performance, it doesn't include the pizzacato strings and dramatic arrangement that gave the studio version such a wide appeal but Ms LaVette's performance is impeccable.
