Roger (or anyone else):

I don't know if anyone else is listening today (Tuesday) but overall it has been a good hour. However, this is the one time I wish you could fast forward or change stations. I say that because they are currently playing Float On by the Floaters, which I consider one of the ten ghastliest songs of all time. Thank goodness it just ended!

I missed the show yesterday (Tuesday) as I was out doing a bit of shopping. When "Float On" first came out I thought it was great and rushed out to get the full-length 12" but I did eventually tire of it and I've not heard it in years.

If anyone listened to today's show (Thursday the 22nd) maybe you can help with something. I was driving around and therefore listening on the car radio. As you know, they don't give the names of the tracks or the artists.

Well today they played quite a number of female vocalists, which suited me just fine. But there was one song I found intriguing. It was probably around the 20-25 minute mark and it sounded like Candi Staton. The theme of the song was that she was aware he has another woman but she doesn't mind as long as he takes care of her at home. So do we know what song that was?

A few minutes later they played one that sounded like Carla Thomas but now I don't remember as much about that one.

DD .... That tune was "As Long As He Takes Care Of Home" by Candi Staton ... it was one of those "Answer songs" to Shirley Brown's "Woman To Woman" that were all the rage around 1975.

The other tune might have been "World In Crisis" by Barbara Mason ... the full playlist is here ... quite fantastic IMHO and I'm becoming a regular listener.

Getting back to The Floaters, I think "Float On" was the song that finally killed off the obsession with Astrology that had gripped a lot of Soul artists ever since The Fifth Dimension sang "The Age Of Aquarius" in 1969 .. around 74/5/6 hardly a week went by without an LP being released and us being told in the sleeve notes what the star sign was of the various performers and songs like "The Son Of Sagittarius" by Eddie K getting released. After "Float On" it just faded away.

Of course it all went over my head as, being a Sagittarius myself, I don't believe in astrology.

Thanks for the info. When I got back in my car at one of my stops, they were playing I Can't Stand the Rain, and it momentarily confused me because I also had Miss Ann in the CD player at the time. (Yes I am one of the remaining 14 people in the universe that have CD players in our cars and actually use them!)

On a quasi-related note, at this same stop, I ran into a high school classmate that I probably had not seen since high school, and none of your business about how long that has been! She was wearing a Patti Labelle sweatshirt, so during our conversation about that, we determined that we had attended the same Patti show about 30 miles away a few years ago, but had not run into each other that night. It was in a rather intimate theater that only seats 1,000, not a 20,000 seat stadium.
