Edwin is on fire on this powerful anti-war anthem. The words say it all!

I do like The Temptations version as well, but Edwin tops any version out there for me.

Aren't there two versions of Edwin's WAR knocking about? One has either an extended intro or an extended fade and, my dim memory tells me, may have been a US/UK variation.

It's a shame that this is the song Edwin will be remembered for. My favourite song of his is S.O.S.(STOP HER ON SIGHT). The Norman Whitfield productions were well received - I raved over FUNKY MUSIC... - but this is my favourite Edwin - Norman collaboration:-

It should have been a hit!

Hi SWI, Thanks for posting that Edwin Starr track. I do like Edwin's albums, but I'm ashamed to say I've never heard that one before, is it on any album?
Thanks again, Paul

Hi Paul, I don't think YGMSOF is on an Edwin Starr album - it came out after INVOLVED, where it should have been, I suppose. Ah, I see John has found it on an expanded edition of that album!

That album did include the wonderful FUNKY MUSIC SHO NUFF TURNS ME ON.

Both tracks were also recorded by the Temptations - FMSNTMO was on ALL DIRECTIONS and YGMSOF was on 1990. I like both of these versions, too but can understand why Motown released the singles by Edwin.

thanks for that SWI. I have the involved album on a twofer CD and unfortunately it's not on there. However I do have both tracks by the Temptations.
I've never tracked down a decent priced Temptations 1990 CD, I ended up with with the download version from Amazon.
Looks like I'll now have to get the expanded edition of Involved, not a bad price. Going through the track listing I noticed it has track called Lonely Days in San Francisco. Is it the same as Lonely Days in San Diego? that was a bonus track on one of Edwin's twofers.

YGMSOF is also on the cheap and cheerful "Essential Collection" CD that Spectrum released in 2002 ...

The "Essential Collection" being so cheap and cheerful that some copies included an uncredited track by an unknown artist! :)

The expanded edition of Involved is on my Birthday list, hopefully my daughter will notice it there.
