[ Guests cannot view attachments ] 'She Walks in Beauty' arrived today and I’ve just played it. What can I say, Marianne is both a chameleon and a survivor. She has reinvented herself and changed directions many times in her career. In this instance she survived a near fatal attack of Covid 19. It was touch and go for a while but she's strong willed and made of iron. She had wanted to make this album for a long time and she did.
Marianne is Marianne whether singing or speaking there is no difference as her voice is sensuous, hypnotic and very very refined. In her recitations she paints pictures with the words so that the listener becomes immersed. The pièce de résistance, which I remember from school, is Tennyson’s ‘The Lady of Shallot’. Marianne's friend Warren Ellis composed the beautiful music which complements each poem perfectly. Nick Cave and Eno play piano.
The album is over 45 minutes long and is beautifully packaged. It's an album that I shall listen to many times in the coming weeks & months.
Marianne is Queen, long may she reign.
